Balimo College - creating pathways and fostering new teachers, nurses and leaders for a brighter Western Province.

Established in 2022 as part of SDP’s education strategy, and implemented by KTF, Balimo College is Western Province’s first tertiary institution - offering vital local pathways in education and health for secondary school graduates.

The School of Teaching offers Diploma and Degree programs in education and has welcomed three cohorts of students, The vast majority of these students have previously gained or upgraded their secondary results through Western FODE programs, demonstrating a successful pipeline that is helping train the next generation of qualified, local teachers.

In 2024, the first Diploma of Primary Teaching students completed their studies, the majority choosing to stay on to complete their Bachelor of Education. A year later, the province saw another first - the opening of Balimo College’s School of Nursing, offering a 4-year Bachelor of General Nursing.

These programs are already helping address the shortage of teachers and health workers in the region, with graduates set to strengthen under-staffed services across rural and remote communities.

In 2024, Balimo College was formally recognised as a Higher Education Institute by the Department of Higher Education, Research, Science and Technology (DHERST), meeting strict national standards in governance, teaching quality, student outcomes, and support. The college works in partnership with Western Sydney University and Divine Word University to ensure strong academic and curriculum support.
