Our Work

Just 3.6 km from Australia’s northern tip, Papua New Guinea is our closest neighbour.

Home to 850+ languages, it’s one of the most culturally diverse nations on Earth. 85% of its people live in rural and remote areas, surrounded by rich biodiversity and natural resources.

In 2025, PNG celebrates 50 years of independence — a proud milestone for this resilient nation.

As it grows, PNG faces both opportunities and significant development challenges.

Only 12% of girls and 16% of boys who begin school complete grade 12.

PNG's literacy is 63.4%, the lowest in the Pacific.

0.8 health workers per 1,000 people is well below recommended 2.3.

A woman in PNG is 35 times more likely to die during childbirth than her neighbour in Australia.

1.5 million victims experience Gender Based Violence every year in PNG.

Limited capacity hinders provision of basic government services.

EDUCATION.      HEALTH.       EQUALITY.     LEADERSHIP.

KTF works alongside people and communities in Papua New Guinea to improve lives, livelihoods and futures through vital programming education, health, leadership and equality.

Together, we tackle local challenges by building capacity and aligning with PNG government priorities to drive lasting impact in rural and remote communities.

Where we work across PNG

EDUCATION

Education is the key to PNG’s future. Our program fosters pathways to education for communities struggling to access high quality teaching and learning, from early childhood to tertiary.

HEALTH

Access to basic healthcare is a fundamental human right. Our work in health promotes equal and affordable access to primary healthcare, nutrition, immunisations and child and maternal care.

EQUALITY

Inequality is a major barrier to human development. We prioritise vulnerable people, especially women and girls, to improve safety and livelihoods.

LEADERSHIP

Leadership is an important driver of development. Our leadership program finds and fosters the next generation of PNG leaders.
