Healthy Communities - ensuring access for all.

The Healthy Communities project brings essential primary healthcare to remote areas of Central and Oro Provinces - places where, in many cases, no services exist at all.

We support Community Health Worker salaries, provide essential medical supplies, conduct patrols to remote communities and improve aid post infrastructure to keep these vital services running.

A strong focus is placed on building local capacity. We work with National and Provincial Health Authorities to deliver and tailor training to meet the specific needs of health workers in the region.

Maternal and child health is a priority, with hygienic birthing kits and Pikinini Packs offered as incentives for mothers to give birth at aid posts with trained support - making childbirth safer for both mother and baby.

It’s about delivering reliable care where it’s needed most, and strengthening the system for the long term.

Ronald Ameme, Community Health Worker, Sanananda Village, Oro Province

‘I had a woman who came to the aid post who was in a critical condition. She was experiencing abdominal pain, vomiting, fitting and internal bleeding. I assessed her by doing an abdominal examination and providing fluid and immediate medication. I then referred her to Poppondetta General Hospital for further investigation. She was transferred and treated and now she is living back in her community, happy and healthy.’ - working at Sanananda aid post.

The training was very important to me as I deliver a lot of babies. The training has reinforced these skills and has given me more confidence in my practice moving forward to safely deliver babies and care for mothers during land after labour.’ - attending Emergency Obstetrics Training delivered by KTF in partnership with the NPHA"
