Kicks for Kokoda - health and equality through sport.

There’s no denying it - sport brings people together. In Oro Province, KTF’s Kicks 4 Kokoda is using that power to do more than just play soccer. It’s creating safe spaces for young people, promoting inclusion, and opening up access to vital health services.

A partnership between KTF, the PNG Olympic Committee and Grassroot Soccer, Kicks 4 Kokoda delivers a 9-week program combining soccer with life skills. It empowers adolescents aged 12 to 19 with knowledge around sexual and reproductive health, gender equality, and respectful relationships - while encouraging health-seeking behaviour and community leadership.

Trained community coaches lead mixed-gender teams, creating local ownership and lasting engagement. Tournaments featuring PNGOC Hero Athletes, including para-athletes, celebrate the end of each Kicks cycle.

Welcoming the wider community, tournaments connect community members with vital services - such as HIV and malaria testing, promoting child safety, gender-based violence awareness, and disability inclusion.

In a region where access to services is limited and a growing youth population face real challenges, Kicks 4 Kokoda is helping young people stay healthy, confident, and connected. All through the power of sport.

“I find the students are more respectful, to the teachers, and other students. I will be a game changer by becoming a leader to younger people in my community."
