Sanap Strong - standing up strong together for zero-tolerance of violence.

In partnership with the PNG Counsellors Association, KTF is building local capacity to better prevent and respond to violence in Oro Province - through the first training of its kind in the region to upskill key community members.

Key frontline workers, including police, health staff, government partners and community leaders, complete 10-day Basic Counselling Training to deliver safe, survivor-centred care.

Local community members - many of whom already support women and girls facing violence - can undertake a 5-day Community-Based Helper Training.

Participants are now better equipped to respond to survivor needs in their daily roles.

At the heart of Sanap Strong is deep collaboration with local partners - PNGCA, Femili PNG, the Oro Provincial Government, FSVU, the Department of Community Development, and the Evetu Soregari Mando Safe Haus. Together, we’re strengthening referral pathways and building the capacity of frontline services, ensuring communities are better equipped to respond to - and prevent - violence.

By embedding skilled support at every level, Sanap Strong strengthens whole communities with the tools to prevent and respond to violence with compassion and action.

“As a community base constable (police officer), I experience a lot of things when dealing with criminals, compared to dealing with survivors. This 10 days of training has made me a new person again, especially as a counsellor. I’m very thankful for learning new things and the challenges that will make me confident in my duty as a counsellor.”
