Thriving Oro Province Partnerships: New phase of Project Zero and Safe House opening

On the 30th August 2023, KTF met with its extraordinary Oro Provincial partners to commence a new phase of its Project Zero partnership.

KTF CEO, Dr Gen Nelson, met with the Deputy Administrator and Provincial GBV Chairman, Joseph Mokada, Sgt Betty Kanari, Popondetta Family and Sexual Violence Unit Officer in Charge, Elsie Doyore, Department of Community Development Gender & Disability Officer and colleagues.

Partners launched the next stage of the project including the opening of KTF’s new Safe House in the Province for survivors of GBV and family and sexual violence, strengthened case management and counselling services, and ongoing community awareness programs.

The partnership supports the PNG National Strategy on Gender Based Violence - an endemic problem affecting the lives of too many individuals and communities. KTF has recently composed advocacy submissions to highlight this pressing crises to PNG Permanent Parliamentary Committee Hearing on Gender Equality and Women’s Empowerment and the Australian Governments new International Gender Equality Strategy.

Working with the Oro Provincial Department of Community Development, FSVU, Femili PNG and the Papua New Guinea Counsellors' Association - PNGCA, KTF is grateful to DFAT’s ANCP program, the Canadian Government and Web of Hope Foundation for their ongoing support of this partnership and critical work.
