HEALTH

Bringing Essential Healthcare to the Last Mile

In some of the most remote and underserved parts of Papua New Guinea, accessing even basic healthcare can be a challenge. KTF’s Health Program is focused on changing that. We work alongside communities, health workers, and government partners to bridge critical gaps—so that no one is left behind when it comes to their health.

From maternal and child health to disease prevention and disability inclusion, we support the delivery of services that are local, lasting, and life-changing.

Our Approach

We work hand-in-hand with local communities and in close partnership with National and Provincial Health Authorities. Together, we identify the most pressing needs - and respond with solutions that strengthen the system for the long term.

Our goal is simple:
Support the government. Invest in people. Deliver lasting impact.

Why It Matters

  • 0.8 health workers per 1,000 people (Well below the global standard of 2.3)

  • PNG women are 35x more likely to die during childbirth than women in Australia.

  • 1.5 million cases of malaria reported each year.

  • Vaccine coverage is declining across all antigens.

  • Life expectancy is 64 years, compared to 75 across the Western Pacific.

  • HIV prevalence is 0.9%, among the highest in Asia-Pacific.

  • Only 55% of live births are attended by skilled health workers. Only 51% take place in a health facility.

  • 48 child deaths per 1,000 live births – one of the highest rates in the Pacific.
