Named in honour of the Bisset brothers - who served alongside the Papuan Infantry and Fuzzy Wuzzy Angel carriers during the Kokoda Campaign - the Bisset Medal Scholarship carries forward the enduring bond between Papua New Guinea and Australia, and the spirit of Kokoda.
This year, we are proud to support two outstanding students from Kokoda Track communities as they take the next step in their education.
Ms Victor Bosten, from Kokoda Village, is studying Nursing at Pacific Adventist University.
Mr Andrew Batia, from Efogi Village, is studying Business Management at Divine Word University.
Andrew is a familiar face to KTF. He was previously supported through the Fuzzy Wuzzy Angel Scholarship during his primary and secondary education, and later continued his studies closer to home at the Mt Koiari FODE Centre. Now holding a Diploma in Electrical Engineering and currently undertaking a Bachelor of Business Management, Andrew hopes to return after graduation to support sustainable projects that improve living standards along the Track.
Victor’s motivation is deeply personal. In her application, she shared:
“I come from one of the most remote villages in PNG, and I have seen with my own eyes people dying from curable diseases due to a lack of proper healthcare. I want to go back and serve my people.”
Their journeys reflect the purpose of the Bisset Medal Scholarship - to support students from along the Kokoda Track to pursue tertiary education and return home equipped to strengthen their communities.
Congratulations, Victor and Andrew. We look forward to the impact you will create.
