Western Province

KTF is proud to be one of the PNG Sustainable Development Program’s implementing partners in Western Province. Together, we deliver a holistic suite of education initiatives that expand access to learning, provide second-chance high school opportunities across remote communities, and create clear pathways for students to progress to tertiary education and beyond.

Investing in sustainable education initiatives throughout Western Province.

Western Province borders both Indonesia and Australia but much of its population lives in deep isolation, scattered across rivers, floodplains, and remote highlands. Despite its resource wealth and the presence of the Ok Tedi mine, over half the population lives in poverty, with many communities still beyond the reach of essential services. Roads are scarce, blocked by extensive waterways, leaving people to travel by canoe, dinghy, or bush tracks by foot or bike.

Climate change is adding to the strain, threatening food, water, and health security across low-lying districts. Isolation also brings serious security concerns, with women particularly vulnerable to violence in the absence of accessible support systems.

The path forward for Western lies in making sure services reach even the most remote, so that no one is left behind.

Education is key to Western’s development. Working alongside the Western Provincial and district administration and education departments, communities and local leadership, and as the PNG Sustainable Development Program’s education partner, KTF is improving access to ensure that, Western communities have access to life-changing, quality education, no matter how remote.
